Turkish football is experiencing one of its tensest days in history.
The heavy accusations made by Burak Yılmaz, who resigned from his position as head coach of the "Gaziantep" club, regarding the refereeing system and the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) have drawn international attention. According to the claims, UEFA has started monitoring the football administration and the principles of justice in the country given this situation.
Burak Yılmaz’s main target is the refereeing system and the Central Refereeing Committee (MHK). He has claimed that the referees’ decisions are biased and controlled by certain forces. Furthermore, the activities of some individuals within the TFF have also become a serious topic of discussion.
In the statements he made after his resignation, Yılmaz openly expressed that he is being pressured:
"They are trying to silence me, but they will not succeed. No one can threaten me. They say they will not allow me to coach, supposedly. My conscience is clear, I am innocent."
These claims shake the foundations of Turkish football. Especially, such a sharp statement from a figure who has left a mark on major clubs like "Gaziantep," "Trabzonspor," "Beşiktaş," "Fenerbahçe," and "Galatasaray" has caused a great resonance among fans and experts.
Experts believe that if these claims are proven, serious personnel reforms in the management of the TFF and MHK will be inevitable.
UEFA's potential intervention in the events could also pose certain risks for the future of Turkish clubs in European tournaments. (Offsideplus.az)
