No need for a balcony or garden: The secret to harvesting abundant produce in pots at home!

You don’t necessarily need a large garden to eat fresh and natural vegetables. With this method presented by "Sözcü," you can harvest products one by one in a sunny corner of your home, even in front of a window. This information is invaluable especially for those who want to grow tomatoes, peppers, and greens.

The main steps emphasized for successful harvesting in the news are:

1. Proper pot and drainage system
The biggest mistake when growing vegetables at home is water accumulating at the bottom of the pot.

Advice: Pots must have holes at the bottom. Placing a few small stones or gravel at the very bottom of the pot to allow water to flow easily prevents the roots of the plant from rotting.

2. Soil selection and fertilization
Simple yard soil compacts quickly in a pot and prevents the plant from breathing.

Solution: Use a mixture of peat, perlite, and organic fertilizer. This mixture is both light and retains the appropriate amount of water. Crushing and mixing eggshells into the soil provides natural calcium support to the plant.

3. Light and ventilation: The most important factor
Plants need at least 6-8 hours of sunlight daily to be able to perform photosynthesis.

Location selection: South-facing windows are the most ideal place. If your home does not receive enough sunlight, you can increase product yield by using special plant lamps (grow lights).

4. Watering method
Instead of watering the plant a little every day, it is more effective to water deeply as soon as the top layer of soil dries out. Pouring water directly on the leaves rather than the root area prevents fungal diseases.

5. Do the pollination yourself
Although bees and wind do this work outdoors, gently shaking the flowers of the plant at home or touching the center of the flowers with a small brush speeds up pollination (and thus fruit production).
