The ambassador noted that under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the Turkish nation and the Turkish Armed Forces achieved a historic Victory on August 30, 1922, and emphasized that the struggle initiated by his country 103 years ago has been successfully completed.

He stated that both August 30 and November 8 are days crowned with honorable victories in the fight for independence: “We applaud the recent achievements aimed at establishing the basis for peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia. A historic opportunity for peace and prosperity in the South Caucasus has arisen.”

Birol Akgün noted that Turkey will support all efforts made by Azerbaijan in this direction. He said that his country continues its efforts while maintaining its proactive position for peace and stability.

The ambassador praised and emphasized their high appreciation of the peace agreements reached between Azerbaijan and Armenia. He added that the Commander-in-Chief of the Patriotic War, every soldier of the heroic Azerbaijani Army, and the brave sons of our people who contributed to this great Victory should always be remembered with respect and honor.

The First Deputy Minister of Defense - Chief of the General Staff of the Azerbaijani Army, Colonel-General Kerim Valiyev, stated that the Victory Turkey achieved in its War of Independence is one of the most honorable pages of the brother country's rich history.

The Chief of the General Staff drew attention to the fact that currently relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey are at the highest level. “The outstanding role of the presidents of Azerbaijan and Turkey was crucial in bringing our relations to this level. The historical, religious, economic, cultural, and other ties between our countries open new opportunities for the development of our military cooperation,” said the Colonel-General.

“The planned visit of the Commander of the Turkish Land Forces, Army General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu, to our country in the near future will serve to further strengthen the ties between our armies. Significant work has been done towards aligning the Azerbaijani Army with the Turkish model. This process continues today. Overall, about 30 military exercises will be conducted throughout the current year. At the same time, more than 70 conferences, courses, trainings, and seminars have been organized. It is planned to increase the number and scale of these events by the end of the year,” added K. Valiyev.
