In Europe, anomalous hot weather periods are related to warming in the Arctic. For this reason, air masses coming from the south move northward without having enough time to cool down sufficiently.
Medianews.az, referring to oxu.az, reports that this was stated by the Italian scientist Massimiliano Fatsini in an interview with "RIA Novosti".
"The sea strongly feels the warming, especially this process affects the Arctic and northern seas. As a result, the amount of energy in the ocean, land, and atmospheric system increases. Consequently, subtropical air masses advance northward more frequently," the expert explained.
According to the specialist, as a result of these processes, heat waves are observed more frequently during the summer months.
It should be noted that Europe is experiencing one of the strongest heat waves in recent years. Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, and Greece have suffered the most. The Apennine Peninsula is already experiencing its third heat wave.
In Italy, the peak of the previous heat wave coincided with the last days of June. At that time, the Ministry of Health declared the maximum "red" danger level related to weather conditions in 25 of the 27 major cities.
