Scientists have identified the "hidden phase" of Alzheimer's disease that begins years before symptoms such as memory loss.
Medianews.az reports that approximately 2100 people participated in the conducted study.
The research showed that biological changes related to the brain accelerate mainly from the late 50s.
According to the study results, structural changes in the brain begin long before the disease shows clinical symptoms. The age range of 50-70 is particularly indicated as the period when the risk increases.
Scientists state that the new generation blood tests can provide results as accurate as expensive brain examinations and play an important role in early identification of individuals in the risk group.
One of the authors of the study, Minchao Hu, noted that most biological changes related to Alzheimer's accelerate precisely after age 50.
Another researcher, Jonathan Graff-Radford, emphasized the importance of early screening, stating that monitoring of the disease should start from early diagnosis, not from the late stage.
