The official opening of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway will be on June 2.
Medianews.az reports, citing "Qafqazinfo," that the opening ceremony will take place at the Akhalkalaki International Railway Station.
It has been stated that within the framework of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars project, stations, bridges, terminals, tunnels, and substations have been constructed. Up to 235 km of new tracks have been laid, and a completely new railway infrastructure compliant with European standards has been established.
The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway has been operating in a trial mode since 2017. The technical capacity of the railway is 5 million tons annually. The total length of the mainline is 827 kilometers, of which 213 kilometers pass through Georgian territory. The construction of the Georgian section of the project has been financed through a loan of 775 million US dollars allocated by Azerbaijan. The repayment of the loan is planned from the revenues generated by the project.
Officials from Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Turkey are expected to attend the opening ceremony.
