Huriye Sarıoğlu, 75, who lost her vision six years ago in Turkey, began to see again after a cornea (the transparent front part of the eye) transplantation surgery.

Medianews.az reports that the surgery was performed by Turkish doctor Yusif Yıldırım.

He stated that the patient had severe vision loss in both eyes. The operation significantly improved her quality of life. “We only replaced the diseased inner layer of the cornea. Now her right eye sees well, and surgery is planned for her left eye as well,” he added.

The doctor emphasized that cornea transplants are an effective method to restore vision loss and that the spread of organ and tissue transplantation is vital for this purpose.

After the surgery, Huriye Sarıoğlu expressed her joy: “I had not seen for six years and went through very difficult days. With the surgery, I have regained sight. This was possible thanks to organ transplantation. I call on everyone to be sensitive to this issue.”
