Compared to 1991, the year when our state independence was restored, currently in Azerbaijan, births per 1000 people have decreased nearly 2.9 times, deaths 1.1 times, natural increase (birth-death ratio) 6.2 times, marriages nearly 2.3 times, while divorces have increased more than 1.3 times.
According to the official report, in January-July 2025, there were 9.2 births, 5.9 deaths, 3.3 natural increase, 4.6 marriages, and 2 divorces per 1000 people in the country.
Medianews.az reports that in 1991, there were 26.6 births per 1000 people; in 1992, 25; 1993, 23.7; 1994, 21.4; 2011, 19.4; 2012, 19; 1995, 18.9; 2013, 18.6; 2010, 18.5; 2014, 18.1; 2007, 17.7; 2006, 17.5; in 2008 and 2015, 17.4; 2009, 17.2; 1997, 17.1; in 1996 and 2005, 16.9; 2016, 16.5; in 1998 and 2004, 15.9; 1999, 14.9; 2017, 14.8; 2000, 14.7; in 2018 and 2019, 14.2; 2003, 13.9; in 2001 and 2002, 13.7; 2020, 12.7; 2022, 12.2; 2021, 11.2; 2023, 11.1; and 2024, 10 births were recorded.
Deaths per 1000 people were 7.7 in 2021; 7.6 in 2020; 7.3 in 1994; 7.2 in 1993; 7.1 in 1992; 6.7 in 1995; 6.3 in 1996; 6.2 in 1991, 2005, 2006, and 2007; 6.1 in 1997; 6 in 2003, 2004, 2008, 2010, 2012, and 2022; 5.9 in 1998, 1999, 2000, 2009, 2011, 2014, 2016, 2017, and 2023; 5.8 in 2013, 2018, and 2024; 5.7 in 2002 and 2015; and 5.6 in 2001 and 2019, have been officially registered.
Natural increase per 1000 people was 20.4 in 1991; 17.9 in 1992; 16.5 in 1993; 14.1 in 1994; 13.5 in 2011; 13 in 2012; 12.8 in 2013; 12.5 in 2010; and 12.2 in 1995 and 2014.
In 2015, it was 11.7; 11.5 in 2007; 11.4 in 2008; 11.3 in 2006 and 2009; 11 in 1997; 10.7 in 2005; 10.6 in 1996 and 2016; 10 in 1998; 9.9 in 2004; 9 in 1999; 8.9 in 2017; 8.8 in 2000; 8.6 in 2019; 8.4 in 2018; 8.1 in 2001; 8 in 2002; 7.9 in 2003; 6.2 in 2022; 5.2 in 2023; 5.1 in 2020; 4.2 in 2024; and 3.5 in 2021.
Marriages per 1000 people were 10.4 in 1991; 9.7 in 2011; 9.5 in 1992 and 2007; 9.4 in 2006; 9.3 in 2013; 9.2 in 2008; 9 in 2014; 8.9 in 2010; 8.8 in 2009; 8.6 in 2012; 8.5 in 2005; 8.1 in 1993; 7.5 in 2004; 7.2 in 2015; 6.9 in 2016; 6.8 in 2003; 6.5 in 2017; 6.4 in 2018 and 2019; 6.3 in 1994; 6.1 in 1997 and 2022; 5.7 in 1995; 5.6 in 2021; 5.3 in 2023; 5.2 in 1998 and 2001; 5.1 in 2002; 5 in 1996 and 2000; 4.9 in 2024; 4.7 in 1999; and 3.5 in 2020.
Divorces per 1000 people were 2.1 in 2023 and 2024; 1.7 in 2019 and 2021; 1.6 in 2022; 1.5 in 1991, 2017, 2018, and 2020; 1.4 in 2016; 1.3 in 1992, 2013, 2014, and 2015; 1.2 in 2011 and 2012; 1.1 in 2005; 1 in 2007 and 2010; 0.9 in 1993, 2006, 2008, and 2009; 0.8 in 1994, 1997, 2003, and 2004; 0.7 in 1995, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2001, and 2002; and 0.6 in 1999.
