US President Donald Trump claimed in his statement about Iran that a "regime change" has occurred in the country and said that the US will withdraw from military operations within 2-3 weeks.
According to Medianews.az, immediately after this statement, oil prices dropped by 3 percent in a short period.
Speaking after the signing ceremony held at the White House, Trump said that the leadership in Iran has already changed and emphasized that the new forces are more "reasonable and less radical." His words sparked discussions in the international community.
Trump also stated that the US does not have long-term military goals in the region: "I think we will withdraw from there within two or three weeks."
Speaking about the Strait of Hormuz, Trump noted that the US will not directly intervene in energy shipments, and other countries should resolve this issue themselves.
According to the US president, the main goal – preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons – has already been achieved.
The statements immediately affected the financial markets, causing a sharp drop in oil prices.
