Watching TV and phone before sleeping has become a habit for many people in modern times. However, experts say that this habit can have serious negative effects on health.
According to Milli.Az reports, studies show that especially at night, the blue light emitted from phone or TV screens reduces the secretion of melatonin, the hormone responsible for sleep in the body. This makes it difficult to fall asleep, lowers the quality of sleep, and consequently causes waking up tired in the morning. Over a long period, this condition can lead to chronic insomnia problems.
Doctors state that sleeping in front of screens not only disrupts sleep patterns but also affects brain function. Continuous exposure to information keeps the brain active and prevents it from fully resting. This can result in distraction, memory weakness, and decreased productivity during the day.
On the other hand, sleeping with the phone is also risky for eye health. Looking at the screen in a dark environment can cause dryness, redness, and vision weakening problems in the eyes. Additionally, using the phone while lying in the wrong posture for a long time causes neck and back pain.
Psychologists note that content watched on social networks or TV programs can sometimes cause stress and anxiety. This then leads to more restless sleep and frequent waking up.
Experts recommend staying away from phone and TV at least 30-60 minutes before sleeping for healthy sleep, and creating a quiet and dark environment in the room. Alternatively, reading a book or listening to calm music is considered more beneficial.
It should be noted that a proper sleep schedule plays an important role in maintaining both physical and psychological health. Therefore, minimizing screen use during night hours is recommended.
