Oleg Tyrshkin, a 64-year-old political prisoner convicted in Russia of "plotting a coup," has died.
His family informed SotaVision and RusNews about this. It is reported that he died of a heart attack. OVD-Info notes that the death occurred approximately a month ago.
The exact place of Tyrshkin's death is unknown. According to information, he died while being transferred elsewhere. Some sources state that he passed away in the hospital of a penal colony in Kemerovo region. It is noted that he was buried in the city of Anzhero-Sudzhensk.
Oleg Tyrshkin was a former miner, trade union leader, and former head of the Kemerovo branch of the opposition "United Citizens' Front." He was arrested in March 2023. The criminal case began after a comment he made on social media. In December 2024, the court sentenced him to two years of imprisonment.
According to information, Tyrshkin had serious health problems, including a brain cyst and panic attacks. His release was planned for December 2026. The "Memorial" organization recognized him as a political prisoner.
It is noted that this is the fourth political prisoner death registered in Russian prisons in the last two months. Previously, several people arrested on similar charges in March and April were also reported to have died in custody./Ajans.az
