On December 7, 2023, an earthquake was recorded 51 km northeast of the Altiagaj station of the Republican Seismological Service Center, in the Caspian Sea. The earthquake had a magnitude of 5.6. The earthquake was felt with a strength of 5-3 points in Altiagaj, Siyazan, Guba, Gusar, Khachmaz, Shabran, Gobustan, and the Absheron peninsula.
