Amendments are proposed to the legislation regarding the granting of martyr family status to those studying in vocational education, secondary specialized education, and higher education institutions.
Trend.Az reports that this was reflected in the report of the Human Rights Commissioner (Ombudsman) for 2025, discussed at today's meeting of the Human Rights Committee of the Milli Majlis.
According to the Law "On immortalizing the name of the martyr and concessions granted to martyr families," spouses, parents, children under the age of 18, children with disabilities determined before the age of 18 and disabled children over 18, brothers and sisters, those raised in orphanages, and those studying in vocational education, secondary specialized education, and higher education institutions are considered members of the martyr family until they graduate from those educational institutions, but no more than up to the age of 23; if there is no one legally obligated to support them, grandparents are also considered members of the martyr family.
In the Ombudsman's report, in order to increase the effectiveness of ensuring the right to education for members of martyr families, it is proposed to raise the age limit of 23 years specified for those studying in vocational education, secondary specialized education, and higher education institutions as set forth in the above paragraph.
