After the collapse of the Assad regime in Syria, the testimonies of prisoners released from Sednaya prison and the circulated images once again revealed the systematically applied torture here. Sednaya has long been known as a place where political prisoners, including women and children, were subjected to the most severe violence.
Below are the main types of torture confirmed by the prisoners.
Medianews.az presents the torture methods applied in Sednaya prison:
1. Beating the prisoner – Those brought to prison were beaten with silicone and metal rods.

2. Cold water torture – Naked prisoners were suddenly sprayed with cold water, especially in winter, causing shock and freezing incidents.

3. Drowning in water – Placing the head into a water-filled container and holding it for a long time, or suffocating with a wet cloth method.

4. Electric shock – Electric current was passed through prisoners' bodies using electric shock devices. Shocks were mainly directed to the abdomen and genital organs.

5. Burning with a metal rod – Heated iron pressed to the body, as well as burning with cigarettes and lighters.

6. Electricity in the metal chair – Prisoners were seated on a metal chair and electric shocks were applied to their entire bodies.

7. “Spirit” (hanging) position – Hands and feet all tied together or separately hands or feet tied, prisoner hung upright or head down from the ceiling.

8. Side spirit position – Hands are tied to a chain fixed to the ceiling from behind and pulled upward.

9. Squatting position – Forced to squat for a long time without leaning against the wall; those who did not obey were beaten.

10. Tire torture – Prisoner placed inside a car tire and beaten from all sides.

11. Cross position – Prisoner squeezed between wooden boards then beaten.

12. Pulling out hair – Hair and body hair pulled out by hand or tools from the root.

13. Cutting off body parts – Cases of cutting off ears, fingers, and other areas reported.

14. Needle stabbing – Needles stabbed into the face, lips, ears, palms, and heels.

These disclosures once again confirm that Sednaya is one of the most horrific crime scenes of the Syrian war.
