The opposition won the election.

The preliminary results of the parliamentary elections held in Hungary on April 12 have been announced.

Medianews.az reports that according to the official report, the main opposition force - the Respect and Freedom Party led by Peter Madyar receives 138 mandates in the 199-member National Assembly.

100 mandates are sufficient to form a government.

It is reported that the ruling Hungarian Civic Alliance together with its coalition partner the Christian Democratic People's Party won 55 mandates. The leader of the organization, Viktor Orban, was prime minister from 1998 to 2002 and has held the same post since 2010.

Our Homeland Party enters the parliament with 6 mandates.

The legislative body consists of 106 members elected by majoritarian system (by districts), 93 members by proportional system (by party lists).

Born in 1981, Peter Madyar was a member of the Hungarian Civic Alliance from 2002 to 2024. After parting ways with Viktor Orban, Peter Madyar joined the Respect and Freedom Party and was elected leader of the organization on July 22, 2024.
