The Seoul court sentenced former South Korean president Yoon Suk-yeol to 30 years in prison on charges of sending drones to the territory of North Korea (DPRK).
This was reported by the "Reuters" agency.
According to the information, the former head of state gave the order to send combat drones into Pyongyang's airspace. The prosecution believes that this step was taken to create an artificial pretext for declaring martial law in 2024. It is worth noting that in February, a South Korean court had sentenced Yoon Suk-yeol to life imprisonment on charges of leading a coup that occurred in December 2024.
The former politician served as president from 2022 to 2025. After declaring martial law and deploying the military to the National Assembly to prevent legislators from overturning this decision, he was impeached and removed from office on December 14, 2024. It was also reported that he ordered the arrest of the speaker of the parliament, as well as the leaders of the ruling and opposition parties./oxu.az
