The rapid development of artificial intelligence is completely reshaping the global labor market. While automation may eliminate some professions, it also creates new and more profitable job areas. This technological wave leads to massive changes in the world of work.
Regarding this topic, Human Resources Manager Röyal Ahmadov in his statement to Democrat.az said that artificial intelligence is no longer the future but a reality of today, and its impact on the labor market is felt more clearly each passing year:
"In fact, throughout history, every technological revolution has changed or eliminated certain professions, while simultaneously causing the emergence of new ones. In this respect, artificial intelligence is no different. The difference is that this time, the speed of changes is significantly higher compared to previous technological transformations.
Today, artificial intelligence can especially perform repetitive, standard, and rule-based tasks more quickly and at a lower cost. Data processing, preparation of simple reports, initial customer services, data entry, some accounting operations, certain parts of translation, initial drafting of texts, and a number of administrative processes are largely automated now. This may lead to a gradual decrease in the demand for the number of people working in these fields. However, the important point here is that artificial intelligence primarily changes duties and work processes, not professions themselves. For example, an HR specialist will not disappear completely, but processes such as initial CV screening, preparation of vacancy texts, and interview scheduling will make much greater use of artificial intelligence. The same approach applies to marketing, law, finance, journalism, education, and other fields as well."
The expert added that, on the other hand, completely new professions are emerging:
"The demand is increasing for specialists who teach and develop artificial intelligence systems, AI ethics experts, AI auditors, prompt engineers, data analysts, specialists in machine learning, cybersecurity experts, automation consultants, and new roles managing human–artificial intelligence collaboration. In other words, the labor market on the one hand reduces some traditional jobs, while on the other hand creates new opportunities requiring higher qualifications.
International trends show that in the future, along with technical knowledge, skills that distinguish humans from artificial intelligence will be valued more. Critical thinking, creativity, emotional intelligence, leadership, decision making, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills will be among the main advantages in the labor market. This is because artificial intelligence can provide information, but building empathy, managing human relations, and making complex ethical decisions remain areas where humans have the upper hand.
Adapting to these changes is a significant responsibility for the government, educational institutions, and employers alike. Educational programs must be updated to meet labor market demands; universities and vocational training institutions must pay greater attention to the development of digital skills. Companies should invest in the continuous development of their employees and prepare them to work with new technologies. For workers, retraining (reskilling) and enhancing existing skills (upskilling) are no longer options but necessities.
It is also important to strengthen preparations in this direction in Azerbaijan. As digital transformation accelerates, the use of artificial intelligence will expand in government agencies, the private sector, and educational institutions. This will increase the need for specialists with new skills in the labor market. Those who adapt in time will benefit from this change, while those who are unprepared may face difficulties in competition.
In conclusion, artificial intelligence represents not only a risk but also a great opportunity for the labor market. The key is not to compete with technology but to be able to use it properly. The most successful people in the future labor market will not be those trying to replace artificial intelligence, but those who efficiently use its possibilities to further strengthen their knowledge and skills," he noted.
