Russian therapist Aleksandr Kozlov spoke about the effect of caffeine on bone tissue.
Medianews.az reports that, according to him, caffeine can slightly reduce calcium absorption in the intestines and accelerate its excretion through the kidneys. However, the extent of these losses is often exaggerated.
The specialist stated that only 2–6 milligrams of calcium are lost from one cup of coffee, whereas one glass of milk contains about 300 milligrams of calcium. For this reason, the effect of coffee on calcium balance is mostly minimal.
Kozlov emphasized that coffee rarely causes osteoporosis on its own. Risks mainly increase due to calcium deficiency, drinking more than 4–5 cups of coffee per day, and in women during the postmenopausal period.
