As is known, on July 31, President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree on making additions to the "Statute on the Ministry of Culture." According to the decree, the following were included among the ministry's duties:
- To carry out supervision over the application of the Azerbaijani language in the relevant field, compliance with normative legal acts on the Azerbaijani language, including the norms of the Azerbaijani language;
- To ensure the development of the Azerbaijani language, as well as the promotion and introduction of Azerbaijani literature abroad, and foreign literature in the Republic of Azerbaijan.
What steps will the Ministry of Culture take arising from this decree, and what measures does it plan to implement?

In response to the website’s inquiry, it was stated by the Ministry of Culture that President Ilham Aliyev always keeps the Azerbaijani language at the center of attention and regularly signs strategic documents aimed at the development and purification of our mother tongue: "The activity of the State Language Commission under the chairmanship of the President is also a manifestation of how much importance the head of state attaches to our state language.
By the decree signed by Mr. Ilham Aliyev on July 31, 2025, additions were made to the "Statute on the Ministry of Culture," and new directions concerning the protection, development, and application of the Azerbaijani language were determined among the ministry’s duties.
To ensure the implementation of this important strategic decision by the Ministry of Culture, it is primarily planned to improve mechanisms for supervising the application of the Azerbaijani language, compliance with normative legal acts and language norms, strengthen cooperation with relevant state bodies, and conduct consultations in the direction of the development and purification of the Azerbaijani language.
The Azerbaijani language, as an important cultural factor expressing national identity, constitutes one of the main articles of the ministry’s cultural strategy and has been identified as a priority direction in its activities.
At the same time, projects are being prepared to promote the richness of the Azerbaijani language and its use in the modern era, as well as to more widely introduce and promote our national literature abroad.”
