President Ilham Aliyev sent a congratulatory letter to Pope Leo XIV of Rome.
Medianews.az reports that the letter says:
"Your Holiness,
On the occasion of Your Coronation Day, I sincerely congratulate You and, through You, all Your co-believers personally in my own name and on behalf of the people of Azerbaijan.
I am pleased that the relations between Azerbaijan and the Holy See, based on mutual respect and understanding, are developing along an upward path and gaining new meaning day by day. These relations serve benevolent intentions such as promoting interfaith harmony and cultural diversity in the world, as well as creating an atmosphere of mutual trust among civilizations.
In Azerbaijan, recognized as one of the addresses of multiculturalism in the world, ethnic and religious diversity is preserved as a national treasure, and equal conditions are created for all denominations. We are proud that Azerbaijan is a place where people belonging to various religions and beliefs live in harmony and mutual understanding. The laying of the foundation for a new Catholic church in the city of Baku is another tangible example of the traditions of interfaith harmony, multiculturalism, and tolerance in our country.
I would like to specially note the fruitful cooperation that has been established for many years between the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Holy See. The restoration work carried out in the Vatican with the support of the Foundation not only contributes to intercultural dialogue and the preservation of religious and cultural heritage but also reflects Azerbaijan's commitment to universal values.
Your Holiness,
I highly appreciate Your contribution to the development of sincere dialogue and cooperation between Azerbaijan and the Holy See. I am confident that our bilateral relations will continue to strengthen and deepen for the sake of promoting universal values and fostering inter-civilizational understanding.
On such a momentous day, I wish You robust health, a long life, and constant success in Your exalted and sacred mission."
