Many misconceptions about obesity in society seriously affect people's health. Experts state that the thought that this problem is only related to appearance is a big mistake and the consequences of the disease can be more serious.
Medianews.az, citing Foodinfo.az, reports that nutritionist Yekaterina Stasyuk emphasized that obesity is not just a cosmetic problem. According to her, this disease can cause severe complications such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, musculoskeletal system problems, certain types of cancer, sleep apnea, and infertility.
The specialist noted that one of the most widespread myths about obesity is that this problem can only be eliminated through diet and exercise. According to her, some people burden themselves with intense workouts and sharply reduce their food intake, resulting in temporary weight loss, but shortly after, the weight increases again.
The dietitian emphasized that effective obesity treatment requires a comprehensive approach. The participation of a psychologist, endocrinologist, gastroenterologist, and therapist is essential in this process, and in some cases, surgical intervention may also be necessary. Therefore, specialists recommend people facing such problems to consult a doctor instead of self-treatment.
