The Kremlin sent a message to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan through the ambassador in Armenia, Sergey Kopirkin. The Russian diplomat, who said, "We expect more information about the mechanism and details of how the 'Trump way' works," indicated that it is not correct to discuss the details of the project only with the United States.

Political analyst Elkhan Shahinoglu told Medianews.az that after Nikol Pashinyan accepted the agreement regarding the "Trump way" in Washington on August 8, he had the opportunity to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin several times: "From Kopirkin’s words, it appears that Pashinyan did not provide detailed information about the 'Trump way' to the Kremlin during these meetings. Kopirkin’s statement indicates that Moscow will increase its pressure on Yerevan regarding the 'Trump way.' Robert Kocharyan sold Armenia's railways to Russia during his presidency. For this reason, the Kremlin wants to create the impression that it has claims over the railway that will go through the 'Trump way'."
According to E. Shahinoglu, in any case Russia will not be able to control the new corridor: "Nevertheless, Nikol Pashinyan should correct Kocharyan's mistake of giving Armenia's railways under Russia's control. Even if Russia cannot control the railway, it will be able to benefit from the corridor, and the Zangezur corridor will ensure Armenia's railway connection with Russia."
