Do not use this mode on your washing machine: experts explain

This mode is actually a waste of resources. Many people think that the quick wash mode on the washing machine is a smart way to save both time and water.

Medianews.az citing Lent.az reports that repair specialists warn that this is one of the worst choices for our clothes, budget, and the environment.

Which mode really saves water and energy?

The best choice is the ECO mode. Almost all washing machines produced in the last 10 years have a version of this program. This mode is specially designed to minimize both water consumption and electricity costs.

The ECO mode works differently from standard programs. It sometimes significantly lowers the washing temperature and determines the load volume through internal sensors to automatically adjust the amount of water needed. To compensate for the effect of the lower temperature, the program duration is extended. Usually, this duration ranges from 90 minutes to 3 hours. This longer duration is not a drawback; on the contrary, it is the main factor ensuring the efficiency of the ECO mode.

However, some points need to be considered:

- The efficiency of the ECO mode varies depending on the brand and price level — more expensive machines usually offer more advanced sensor technology.

- It’s not ideal to always use only the ECO mode — using different programs extends the lifespan of the internal parts of the machine.

- If you have a washer-dryer, remember that the drying function alone consumes more electricity than all the washing modes combined.

- Programs designed for synthetic or cotton fabrics are not always more effective than the ECO mode, although they may appear “stronger”.

So when should quick mode be used?

Use it only when necessary. For example, when a garment absolutely must be washed in a short time and there is no other option. Even for lightly soiled clothes, washing a full load in ECO mode provides better results and uses fewer resources.
