Quality sleep depends not only on the daily routine but also on the conditions in the bedroom. A gardening expert has revealed the names of three houseplants that can positively affect sleep by improving air quality.
Medianews.az, citing Lent.az, reports that workload, stress, and the bedroom environment can affect the quality of rest. Michael, a gardening specialist known on the TikTok platform as Mediterranean Gardener, stated that some houseplants can help in this situation.
The expert explains that some plant species continue to emit oxygen even at night. Therefore, it is recommended to keep them in the bedroom. Usually, plants absorb carbon dioxide and produce oxygen during the photosynthesis process in the daytime. Although this process changes at night, some plants can maintain beneficial gas exchange.
The expert specifically mentioned three plants that help improve air quality in the bedroom.
Snake Plant
According to Easy Plant specialists, this plant is not only decorative but also beneficial for the microclimate of the room. Sansevieria can help reduce allergens in the air, especially dust and other fine particles, by emitting oxygen and humidity.
Additionally, this plant is considered very resilient. It requires minimal care and can live for a long time with infrequent watering.
Orchid
Orchids, in addition to decorating the interior with their colorful flowers, can also positively affect air quality. According to Plantura specialists, this plant has the ability to absorb substances such as xylene, toluene, and formaldehyde from the air.
According to Michael, these flowering plants can enrich the air with oxygen during the night hours as well, making them a suitable choice for the bedroom.
Areca Palm
Another plant recommended for keeping at home is the Areca Palm. This plant is also known as the golden palm or butterfly palm.
Areca Palm has been included in NASA's studies researching plants' ability to purify air. The results showed that this plant is effective in breaking down volatile organic compounds that frequently accumulate indoors.
According to the expert, the Areca Palm thrives well in indirect sunlight and requires light watering several times a week.
Scientists note that houseplants do not only beautify interiors. They can also positively affect humidity levels, the amount of pollutants in the air, and overall comfort.
