According to the forecast of the National Hydrometeorology Service, in the coming days, hot, dry, and windy weather conditions will continue in Azerbaijan, which increases the risk of fires in forests and other natural areas.
Medianews.az reports that this information was released by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources (MENR).
It was stated that forest fires lead to the destruction of tree and plant cover, damage to the habitats of wild animals, loss of fertile soil layer, and disruption of ecological balance.
It was noted that the restoration of ecosystems damaged by fire may take many years.
The ministry advised citizens not to light fires in forests and forest-adjacent areas, not to throw unsmoked cigarette butts into nature, not to burn dry grass, shrubs, and household waste, and not to keep glass and other waste that could cause fires in the area.
Citizens were asked to immediately inform the relevant authorities if they observe smoke or signs of fire.
MENR declared that a small negligence can cause large areas to burn, the destruction of flora and fauna, as well as long-term damage to nature, and called on the population to strictly adhere to fire safety rules.
