Cheaper for cash payments, more expensive by card: Why is the buyer being deceived? - VIDEO

In some stores, when citizens want to make cashless payments, they are offered different prices. If payment is made in cash, a discount is applied, but when paying by card, a discount is not possible.

Medianews.az, referring to ATV, reports that according to experts, this can be considered both illegal and a violation of consumer rights.

Lawyer Roman Garaşov stated that entrepreneurs’ such actions aim to evade tax obligations and are illegal. Fines are applied in accordance with the Tax Code for failure to provide any consumer with a receipt from the cash register.

The expert also noted that demanding card-to-card transfers during cashless payments and not granting discounts is not only an evasion of tax obligations but also a violation of consumer rights. According to Article 7 of the Law on Consumer Rights, a written document – a receipt from the cash register or another confirming document – must be provided for every product.

The State Agency for Antitrust and Consumer Market Control stated that the legislation grants equal rights to all citizens in trade and service areas. There is an opportunity to apply in cases of violation of consumer rights.
