The main forces in the election in Hungary

Medianews.az has reviewed the list of the main political forces participating in the parliamentary election in Hungary.

The parliamentary election is scheduled for April 12. The 199-member National Assembly, whose term of office is four years, elects 106 members through a majoritarian system (by constituencies) and 93 members through a proportional system (by party lists). 100 mandates are needed to form a government.

The right-wing ruling Hungarian Civic Alliance has nominated its leader Viktor Orban again for the post of prime minister. The constant ally and coalition partner of this force is the Christian Democratic People's Party.

Born in 1963, Viktor Orban served as prime minister from 1998 to 2002. He has held the same post since 2010.

The right-centrist Respect and Freedom Party is considered the main opposition force in the election. Led by Peter Madyar, the party is ahead in recent opinion polls.

It is reported that the Our Homeland Party, considered an extreme right nationalist force, and the left-centrist Democratic Coalition Party also have the possibility of entering the parliament.
