On July 5, the fuel station of Azerbaijan State Oil Company (SOCAR) in the Mykolaiv region of Ukraine was subjected to a drone attack by Russia, resulting in an explosion. Due to the implementation of preventive security measures, strict adherence to safety instructions during the air raid, and the availability of a shelter, more severe consequences were avoided. All employees were in the shelter, so they escaped unharmed.
Medianews.az reports that since Russia started a total war in Ukraine on February 24, 2022, this is not the first time a fuel station owned by Azerbaijan has been hit.
In the summer of 2025, explosions in the village of Berezina in the Zhytomyr region of Ukraine caused serious damage to two fuel stations belonging to Azerbaijan's "SOCAR Energy Ukraine" company.
On the night of August 8 of the same year, the Russian Armed Forces attacked SOCAR’s oil depot located in the Odessa region of Ukraine with "Shahed"-type unmanned aerial vehicles. As a result, a fire broke out and four people were seriously injured.
Medianews.az emphasizes that Russian airstrikes have caused severe damage not only to SOCAR’s facilities but also to Azerbaijan’s diplomatic missions in Ukraine.
On March 10, 2022, as a result of a Russian airstrike, the building of Azerbaijan’s honorary consulate in Kharkiv, Ukraine, sustained serious damage and a service vehicle was rendered unusable.
On January 2, 2024, due to a Russian airstrike using a "Kinzhal" missile, a crater approximately 3 meters in diameter was formed near the administrative building of Azerbaijan’s embassy in Ukraine, and an unexploded ordnance was found 8 meters deep from the surface.
On August 28, 2025, an airstrike about 50 meters from Azerbaijan’s embassy in Ukraine damaged the embassy's administrative building and consular section, the ambassador’s residence, and caused serious damage to the diplomatic mission's premises.
On the night of November 14, 2025, during missile and drone attacks on Kyiv, one of the "Iskander"-type missiles landed on the territory of the Azerbaijani embassy. As a result, a part of the embassy's perimeter fence was completely destroyed, structures, service vehicles, the administrative building, and the embassy's consular section were damaged, and significant damage was inflicted on the diplomatic mission’s area; fortunately, there were no human casualties.
Immediately after the change of power in Ukraine due to the people's uprising in February 2014, Russia seized the Crimean Peninsula, and on March 18, annexed the region to itself under the names of the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, also occupying parts of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions and establishing occupying regimes. On February 21, 2022, Russia recognized the Donetsk and Luhansk regimes as "independent states," launched full-scale military operations in Ukraine starting February 24, recognized the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions as "sovereign and independent" entities on September 29, and on October 5 announced their annexation to itself, including the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. The war is accompanied by missile, drone, and aviation strikes across the country.
