Medianews.az reports that in the parliamentary elections held in the country on April 12, Peter Macar's Respect and Freedom Party won 141 mandates out of the 199-seat National Assembly, gaining the right to form a government. On May 9, Peter Macar took the oath in parliament and assumed the prime minister's chair. Members of the government are appointed upon the prime minister's recommendation.
Since 2010, Viktor Orban, leader of the Hungarian Civic Alliance, has served as the prime minister of Hungary. He also held the same position from 1998 to 2002.
Born in 1981, Peter Macar was a member of the Hungarian Civic Alliance from 2002 to 2024. After parting ways with Viktor Orban, Peter Macar joined the Respect and Freedom Party and was elected the leader of the organization on July 22, 2024.
