Koçinyan: "The victorious side will determine the peace."

A notable statement has been made regarding the impact of the upcoming parliamentary elections in Armenia on the peace process in the region.

According to Medianews.az's report citing Musavat.com, Arek Kochinyan, coordinator of the "Peace Bridge" initiative, stated during a meeting with journalists after returning from a trip to Baku that the Azerbaijani side is seriously interested in what awaits Armenia ahead.

According to him, a certain legal and political basis for peace has already been formed between Azerbaijan and Armenia. This framework includes a preliminary peace agreement, agreements on the delimitation and demarcation of borders, as well as on the opening of communications.

Kochinyan noted that a functional political relationship at a certain level has already been established between the two countries, which allows the processes to progress.

However, he emphasized that the main issue is the stance of the political force that will come to power after the elections:

“It is very important what position the forces participating in the elections will take regarding this legal and political basis. Because after the elections, decisions related to peace or war will mostly be made by the winning political force.”
