Israel tried to obtain more information about the U.S. position in the talks with Iran, during which it crossed the permissible limit in its intelligence-gathering methods.
According to sources cited by The New York Times,
The sources say that Israel and the U.S. have been spying on each other for a long time, both sides are aware of these activities and to some extent tolerate them. However, Israel crossed a "red line" while trying to gather information about the U.S. position in the talks with Iran.
It was reported that U.S. intelligence warned the country's leadership that Israel intensified its surveillance and information-gathering activities concerning high-ranking U.S. officials, including President’s special envoy Steve Witkoff, Deputy Defense Secretary for Political Affairs Elbridge Colby, and others.
The publication notes that although the U.S. military provided Israel with a lot of tactical and operational information, Israel was especially interested in President Donald Trump’s strategy in the talks with Iran.
It is even emphasized that Israeli espionage activities went more out of control during Trump’s second presidential term./Modern.az
