The Madrid administration has initiated preliminary talks with Ankara regarding Turkey's developed 5th generation KAAN fighter aircraft.
Medianews.az reports that the information was published by the Spanish media.
Reports indicate that Spanish defense industry companies may also join the production and development phase of the project. According to claims, the expansion of the cooperation initially started on the HÜRJET training aircraft to the KAAN project is being discussed between the parties.
Analysts note that the possible cooperation could encompass avionics systems, composite technologies, and the development of special versions for naval platforms.
The Spanish media writes that the Madrid administration is seeking alternative options to the U.S.-made F-35 program. Within this framework, Turkey's national fighter aircraft KAAN is considered one of the primary choices.
Experts believe that delays in Europe's FCAS project and the desire for strategic independence in defense have led Spain towards new partnerships.
It is noted that Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Indonesia, and the United Arab Emirates have previously shown interest in Turkey's KAAN project. It is reported that Indonesia has signed an approximately $10 billion contract for 48 units of KAAN.
Turkey's 5th generation national fighter aircraft KAAN is planned to be put into service by the armed forces starting from 2028.
