Has Spain agreed to military cooperation with the USA? - Official RESPONSE

White House press secretary Karoline Levitt stated that Spain has agreed to cooperate with the US military, but the Spanish government has categorically denied this claim.

Medianews.az reports that in her statement, Karoline Levitt said that Spain “clearly and explicitly understood” the message from US President Donald Trump and agreed to cooperate with the US military.

This statement has caused widespread discussions among the public.

Spain’s Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares firmly denied these words, stating that the country’s position has not changed. According to him, the Spanish government’s stance regarding the war in the Middle East, the bombings carried out in Iran, and the use of the country’s military bases remains the same as before.

The minister noted that permission will not be given for the use of Spanish bases outside the current bilateral agreement. Albares emphasized that Spain is a sovereign state that independently makes its foreign policy decisions.

It should be noted that previously US President Donald Trump threatened Spain with economic sanctions, stating that Spain did not allow the use of its bases during attacks against Iran.

Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez stated that they are against the war and said that stability in the region can only be ensured through diplomacy and cooperation.
