Iran warned the USA: "We can stop maritime trade"

Iran has threatened to halt trade flows in the Red Sea, the Persian Gulf, and the Gulf of Oman if the US continues its naval blockade.

According to Medianews.az, Tehran stated that in this case, no trade route in the region will be safe.

Following the US naval blockade imposed on Iranian ports, official Tehran responded harshly. In a statement from the "Khatam al-Anbiya" headquarters of the Iranian Armed Forces, it was pointed out that if pressure on Iranian ships continues, maritime trade will be targeted: "Under these circumstances, we will not allow the flow of trade."

Iranian officials described the US action as contrary to international law and as "piracy," emphasizing that security will be "either for everyone or for no one."

According to information, US forces have stopped and turned back some commercial ships departing from Iranian ports and have strengthened military control in the region. This step was taken amid Washington’s increased pressure over Iran's nuclear program and regional activities.

Experts warn that rising tensions could endanger strategic routes through which approximately 20 percent of global oil shipments pass. An increase in oil prices has already been observed.

Iran’s statement has increased the likelihood that the conflict in the Middle East could spread to the seas. Possible crises at critical chokepoints such as the Red Sea and the Strait of Hormuz could seriously affect global trade.
