Sevak Khachatryan, head of the "Victory" ("Agtanak") faction of the Vagharshapat City Council in Armenia's Armavir province, stated that five opposition members have been detained in the country.
Musavat.com reports that Khachatryan wrote about this on his "Facebook" page:
"Since the morning hours, repressions have begun against individuals with various opposition views in Vagharshapat. Searches and arrest operations are ongoing. According to our information, five people have been detained so far."
Kima Avdalyan, press secretary of Armenia's Investigative Committee, told the TASS agency that the investigation authorities will issue an official statement on the matter soon.
"Arrest operations fall within our authority. We will provide a statement about this shortly," she said.
