Dirty seawater causes these diseases - Warning

It is impossible to imagine the summer season without beaches. However, not all beaches are suitable for safe recreation.

The cleanliness of the sea water, the sanitary condition of the shore, the availability of lifeguard services, and general safety measures are the main qualities sought by vacationers. Every year, citizens search for the cleanest beach. But this fact can change every year because the water quality is checked anew each season.

Medianews.az reports that ecologist Gorkhmaz Ibrahimli gave a statement to Axar.az on the mentioned topic.

He stated that sometimes people also go to unofficial beaches and swim in the sea there:

"But the problem is not only here. The problem is the quiet waiting throughout the year by the Sanitary-Epidemiological Department. Then, when the season opens, they tell people that such and such beach carries bacteria or the water is contaminated. However, for example, in the Absheron Peninsula, many beaches are cleaned and monitored. How can these public, non-private beaches not be cleaned?

Yes, if sewage waters flow close to some beaches, it can definitely release some bacteria into the water. But measures should be taken beforehand to prevent this, those sewage outflows should be stopped.

I believe that where there are officially registered beaches—whether municipal or private—people can definitely swim. They must go and swim. Unauthorized beaches are dangerous since they lack lifeguard services. But I believe people should teach their children to swim. Everyone should know how to swim so that drowning incidents do not occur."

The ecologist believes there are no beaches carrying dangerous bacteria and that the Caspian Sea water, although not completely pure, is clean, does not harm human health, and does not cause skin diseases:

"As a person who swims in the sea for hours every day, I say the sea is health; it provides health to people. It is beneficial for the cardiovascular system, the bronchial respiratory system, and the bronchi. It is beneficial for eyesight and is a nerve relaxant. It has great benefits for the heart, is a source of iodine, etc. So, there is no need to fear the sea. The sea and beaches should be kept clean and their benefits utilized."

Dermatologist Parviz Dadashov also emphasized in his statement to our site that first of all, one should protect oneself from the sun:

"Next, one should pay attention to the pollution level of the beaches and the water. There are many skin diseases that can be contracted from polluted waters. The most important of these are fungal diseases. They can cause various rashes and itching on the skin.

Furthermore, at general beaches and unclean places, there are various skin diseases in places commonly used by many people. Among these diseases, skin diseases known especially as 'warts' are more common. To prevent these, we should pay attention to the places we visit and use antiseptic products. If any suspicious condition occurs, we should consult a dermatologist."
