Former striker Bobby Tambling, who was Chelsea's top scorer for many years, has died at the age of 84.
Medianews.az, referring to Lent.az, reports that the footballer appeared in 370 games for the London club between 1959 and 1970 and scored 202 goals. With this figure, he set the record as the highest-scoring footballer in Chelsea's history.
Tambling's record was broken in 2013 by Frank Lampard. Lampard became the club’s new record holder by scoring 211 goals for Chelsea.
Bobby Tambling also holds the record for the most goals scored by a Chelsea player in a single game. In 1966, he found the net five times in a match against Aston Villa.
After leaving Chelsea, the striker played for Crystal Palace, Celtic, Waterford, Shamrock Rovers, and Alberts clubs.
After ending his football career, he coached the Celtic, Cork City, and Crosshaven teams.
