An assassination attempt against the president and an attempted coup d'état have been prevented in Madagascar.
Medianews.az, citing Publika.az, reports that the country's prosecutor Narindra Rakotoniaina issued an official statement on the matter.
The prosecutor stated that as a result of a special operation, 11 people have been detained and 2 others are wanted. Among those detained are high-ranking officers and a general.
"These individuals took part in an attempt to assassinate the president and carry out a long-planned coup d'état," the prosecutor said.
During the searches, large amounts of money and numerous weapons and ammunition were found and confiscated from the homes of those detained. According to the investigation, one of the main organizers of the "criminal operation" is Patrick Rakotomamondji, a former employee of the presidential administration who was dismissed from his position in January and holds the rank of colonel.
