The Scottish Parliament has supported the idea of holding a referendum on independence in the United Kingdom.

Medianews.az reports, citing Trend, that this was stated in a declaration published on the official page of the Scottish government on the social network "X".

It is noted that Scotland's First Minister John Swinney announced on April 27, immediately after the local elections, his intention to put this issue to a vote.

According to media information, 72 deputies voted in favor of holding the independence referendum, 55 deputies voted against it, and two others remained neutral. Alongside this, Swinney is demanding the signing of a decree that will grant the Scottish Parliament the authority to organize an independence referendum in accordance with Article 30 of the Scotland Act 1998.
