The final hearing in the criminal case against Maharram Huseynzada, who is accused of pouring gasoline on his sister's former husband and setting him on fire in Baku, has been held.
Medianews.az, citing APA, reports that today the verdict was delivered at the Baku Serious Crimes Court under the chairmanship of Judge Ayten Aliyeva.
According to the verdict, Maharram Huseynzada was sentenced to 16 years of imprisonment.
The state prosecutor had proposed an 18-year prison sentence for him.
It should be noted that the incident occurred on the night of May 29 last year. According to the accusation, Maharram Huseynzada poured gasoline on his sister's ex-husband Zəhmet Ahmadov during a dispute between them and set him on fire. The victim died after one day in the burn ward of Narimanov Medical Center where he was receiving treatment.
Maharram Huseynzada was charged under Article 120.2.4 (murder committed with special cruelty or by a generally dangerous method) of the Criminal Code.
