In the press statements of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, special attention was paid to issues of strategic partnership between the two countries.
According to economist MP Vuqar Bayramov's statement to Medianews.az, Italy is Azerbaijan's largest trade partner: “In 2025, 24 percent of Azerbaijan’s trade turnover fell to this country’s share. At the same time, Azerbaijan sends 45.3 percent of its exported products to Italy. This means that out of every 100 dollars’ worth of goods exported by Azerbaijan, 45 dollars are destined for Italy.
In 2025, the trade turnover between the two countries increased by 4.0 percent, rising from 11 billion 390 million dollars to 11 billion 860 million dollars. Azerbaijan has a positive trade balance of 10 billion 824 million dollars with Italy.”
Bayramov noted that Azerbaijan is also Italy’s largest trade partner in the South Caucasus: “93% of Italy's trade turnover with the South Caucasus countries belongs to Azerbaijan. Last year, Italy's trade turnover with Armenia was 453 million and with Georgia 442 million dollars. This shows that Azerbaijan is a regional strategic ally for Italy. In the next stage, economic relations between the two countries are expected to expand further.
In recent years, increases in mutual investments have also been observed. Over the last few years, Azerbaijan has invested approximately 3 billion dollars in the Italian economy. As we see, the positive steps taken between the two sides in recent times demonstrate that the strategic partnership is confirmed not only in documents but also in real life and practical cooperation fields.
Strengthening cooperation in the non-oil and gas sector is among the main priorities. The sincere and strategic partnership-based relations between the countries create new opportunities for implementing joint projects. The Italian Prime Minister’s visit to Azerbaijan will contribute to the deepening of strategic relations between the countries.”
