Some mobile operators have applied an increase in the prices of internet packages. For example, it is reported that packages priced at 11 manats have risen to 13 manats. At the same time, there have been claims that fixed internet tariffs will also become more expensive.
What is the reason for the price increase?
Medianews.az reports that Eshgin Nurushov, the technology director of the company "ITStation," speaking to globalinfo.az, said that this issue is related to the combination of several factors:
"First of all, the demand for the internet has increased significantly compared to previous years. People now watch more videos, play online games, and use cloud services. This means more load on the operators' networks. To carry this load smoothly, the network requires constant updating and expansion. On the other hand, technical expenses have also increased. The equipment used by operators is mostly imported, and currency fluctuations and logistics costs directly affect this area. Moreover, energy costs are no longer the same as before, which also increases the overall cost price. At the same time, it should be taken into account that we are in a period of transition to new technologies."
According to E. Nurushov, although technologies like 4G and especially 5G provide users with faster and higher quality internet, their setup and maintenance require considerable investment:
"There are also reports of price increases related to fixed internet. The situation is similar here. The expansion of fiber-optic infrastructure and the work done to provide more stable and faster service create additional costs for operators. The price increase may seem to be solely the operators’ decision, but behind it lie broader economic and technological reasons."
