The European Union has included the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran (IRGC) in the list of terrorist organizations.
Kaja Kallas, the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs, stated that the foreign ministers of the member countries of the union have taken a decisive step by recognizing the IRGC as a terrorist organization.
The new sanctions package adopted by the ministers against Iran targets 20 individuals and entities involved in the violent suppression of protests in the country. Among these individuals are Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni, Prosecutor General Mohammad Movahedi-Asad, and the head of the security police Seyyed Majid Feyz Jafari.
According to the new decision, European Union citizens and companies are prohibited from providing financial resources to these individuals. Also, those sanctioned are banned from entering the European Union. Additionally, it is planned to expand the list of goods prohibited for export from the European Union to Iran.
The IRGC was established after the 1979 Islamic Revolution. This institution, which holds significant influence in the country, controls extensive sectors of the economy and the armed forces, as well as Iran’s missile and nuclear programs.

Political analyst Shahin Jafarli said in an interview with Medianews.az that calling the IRGC a terrorist organization is equivalent to declaring the regime in Iran itself as a terrorist.
According to Shahin Jafarli, this decision shows that the European Union does not believe the regime in Iran will endure and expects the regime to collapse.
