Is the talk surrounding AI-95 gasoline true? - An Explanation Was Given

A number of media outlets share information that from 2026, the production of high-octane gasoline in Azerbaijan will stop again.

Medianews.az contacted Ilham Shaban, head of the Oil Research Center, regarding the issue.

I. Shaban first noted that the media outlets disseminating the news do not specify either the time when production will cease or the reason for stopping production: “They only refer to next year’s state budget envelope. But there is no such direct statement in next year’s state budget. On the other hand, official statistics this year also show that Aİ-95 grade gasoline production is being carried out in Azerbaijan, and though in smaller volumes, its export began in the second half of the year.”

I. Shaban said he also sent an inquiry to SOCAR regarding the issue. According to him, the reply he received was as follows: “Currently, within the production processes applied at the Heydar Aliyev Oil Refinery, the production of A-92 and A-95 grade gasoline in accordance with Euro-5 quality standards is carried out, and the production of these types of petroleum products will continue next year as well.”
