"Questions have arisen in the context of Armenia's future foreign policy course".
Medianews.az reports that this was said by Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to the diplomat, Moscow evaluates the situation not on the basis of political statements but on the fact that Yerevan is distancing itself from the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) amid its rapprochement with the European Union (EU).
Zakharova stressed that the Russian side has repeatedly warned about the contradictions between EAEU membership and the deepening of integration into the EU:
"From the outset, Moscow has declared the impossibility of combining membership in the EAEU with another integration bloc applying respective regulatory mechanisms. This has been communicated to the Armenian side repeatedly and in detail at all levels."
The representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs recalled that similar comments were previously made by President Vladimir Putin and Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk.
Maria Zakharova linked Russia’s position to the EU’s policy towards the EAEU countries. According to her, the EU pursues a "destructive policy" and uses sanctions against the EAEU member states as a pressure mechanism:
"The Western Europe involved has chosen a destructive course and imposes illegal sanctions against EAEU member states."
In Zakharova’s view, in this regard, Armenia’s further deepening of cooperation with the EU directly contradicts the commitments made within the EAEU framework.
The Russian official also accused the EU of conducting a "hybrid war" against Moscow and the EAEU member states. //Telegraph
