Doctors in Russia have warned about the serious consequences of sleep deprivation.
Medianews.az reports that neurologist Yelena Zubareva stated that prolonged lack of sleep causes serious disorders in the body.
According to her, the nervous system is primarily affected. Sleep deprivation increases the level of the stress hormone cortisol. This leads to irritability, mood changes, unexplained tension, and depressive states. At the same time, attention decreases, memory weakens, and work capacity diminishes.
The doctor added that sleep deficiency also disrupts hormonal balance. The secretion of insulin, the satiety hormone leptin, and the hunger hormone ghrelin changes. This can lead to increased appetite, overeating, and over time, weight gain and even obesity.
