After betrayal, a way to forgiveness was found - RESEARCH

New research shows that whether a relationship continues after infidelity in romantic relationships mainly depends on the behavior of the cheating party and their acceptance of responsibility.

Medianews.az reports that within the framework of a study conducted in France, Germany, Switzerland, the USA, and Great Britain, more than 1100 stories of infidelity were analyzed.

The research was conducted from the perspective of the cheating individuals, not those who were betrayed.

Experts state that the most common form of infidelity in romantic relationships is still physical or emotional unfaithfulness. Alongside this, lying, secrecy, manipulation, lack of emotional support, and indifference towards the partner are also considered examples of infidelity.

According to the results of the study, cheating individuals mostly look for the cause of their behavior in themselves rather than in the other party. It has been determined that those who accept responsibility and show remorse are more likely to be forgiven, and the possibility of retaliation from the betrayed party decreases.

The authors of the study note that although confession and remorse play an important role in restoring relationships, the motive behind the infidelity is also significant. Planned and deliberate infidelity can create more severe emotional consequences compared to accidental mistakes.

According to experts, if both parties want to continue the relationship, professional support to eliminate both the infidelity and the underlying problems can help rebuild trust in the relationship.
