“WhatsApp,” one of the most widely used messaging applications in the world, will stop supporting devices with operating systems below Android 6.0 starting from September 8, 2026.
Medianews.az reports that the decision will particularly affect older models running Android 5.0 and 5.1.
The company justified this step with security and performance requirements. It is stated that support will be discontinued because new features and encryption systems do not work stably on old systems.
Users are advised to create backups to prevent data loss, update their devices, or switch to newer models. According to the information, messages and files can be stored via Google Drive.
iOS users will not be affected by this change, and the service will continue on iOS 15.1 and later versions.
