Ugandan officials have declared that the Ebola epidemic recorded in the country in May has ended.
This was stated in a message published on the country's Ministry of Health's "X" social network.
According to the country's health minister, Chris Baryomunsi, this decision was made because the 42-day observation period, which started after the last patient with internal infection was discharged on June 16, has ended.
In total, 20 cases of infection have been confirmed in the country. Of these, 15 were brought from neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and five were infected directly in Uganda. Two patients who were DRC citizens died, and 18 recovered.
At the same time, the World Health Organization (WHO) stated on July 17 that the 42-day intensified epidemiological surveillance period in Uganda began only on July 16, after the last externally acquired patient (a DRC citizen) recovered and was discharged from the hospital.
According to WHO rules, if no new cases are recorded during this period, the epidemic is considered over./oxu.az
