The US Department of the Treasury has announced its first sanctions against Russia. A decision has been made to impose total sanctions against two major Russian energy companies - "Rosneft" and "Lukoil" (along with 34 subsidiaries).

Political analyst Shahin Jafarli told Medianews.az that the market's reaction to this decision – the rise in oil prices – shows that the sanction is serious: “During Biden’s term, and also in the last weeks of his presidency, only two Russian companies - "Gazpromneft" and "Surgutneftegaz" - were subjected to this type of sanction.
In turn, the current US President Donald Trump has canceled a planned meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. US Treasury Secretary Bessent stated that if Russia does not agree to a ceasefire on the current contact line, sanctions will be expanded.”
According to S. Jafarli, another important news is the unanimous adoption in the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee of a bill to recognize Russia as a terrorist state due to kidnapping 20,000 Ukrainian children: “After nine months of efforts to bring Putin to peace yielded no results, Trump was forced to shift to a policy of pressure against Russia. This should actually be regarded as a return to traditional policy.”
